Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (SLE)

SLE is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by the production of antibodies mainly directed against nuclear antigens, the formation of immune complexes and their deposition in many organs. Renal involvement occurs in 40 - 70% of patients.

It is more common in Afro-Americans and Orientals than Caucasians.

90% of patients are women.
