Acute renal failure
The exact aetiology of severe oliguria, often resistant to diuretics, is not fully understood. Renal biospies usually show marked interstitial oedema and acute tubular necrosis.
Causes:
-
Hypovolaemia
-
Tubulointerstitial oedema and tubular protein casts
- Bilateral renal vein thrombosis
- Nephrotoxic antibiotics
- Tubulointerstitial nephritis associated with furosemide use
- Allergic interstitial nephritis from antibiotics or other agents
