Excessive movement of potassium out of cells

Potassium will move out of cells because of:

  • deficiency of hormones which stimulate movement of potassium into cells (insulin, ß2- adrenergic agonists)
  • acidosis
  • cell damage e.g. in tumour lysis syndrome
