Any child with a chronic illness, along with their family, are liable to psychosocial problems.  These are the result of:

  • Long-lasting experience of dependence
  • Age-inappropriate degree of being bed-ridden and lack of physical mobility
  • Dietetic restrictions
  • Diminished concentration
  • Significant loss of time because of treatment and travelling
  • Absence from school
  • Reduced opportunity for social interaction, hobbies, play
  • Impact on vocational training and attendance
