Management of Acute Renal Failure in Children

Summary of actions

Trial of furosemide.

Repeat investigations show:

  • Worsening anaemia and thrombocytopaenia
  • Further deterioration in renal function
  • Hyperkalaemia
  • Acidosis has not improved

The patient is now well hydrated and in view of the failure of the urine output to respond you have correctly reduced the fluid prescription to output + insensible losses.
