Management of Acute Renal Failure in Children

Unilateral obstruction - Not usually a cause

Obstruction to one kidney would not normally be expected to cause renal failure as the other kidney is more than able to fulfil the body's excretory requirements.

Adults who donate a kidney have only a minimal increase in serum creatinine.

The only time when obstruction to a single kidney will result in renal failure is if the patient only has one kidney. This would then be a post renal cause
