Management of Acute Renal Failure in Children

Summary of case so far

2 year old boy presenting with dehydration secondary to a diarrhoeal illness

Diarrhoea noted to be blood stained.

Blood results show

  • Mild anaemia secondary to suspected haemolysis
  • Neutrophilia
  • Thrombocytopaenia
  • Mild renal impairment
  • Acidosis

It is reasonable to await the effects of rehydration although the haemolysis is a concern.
