Respiratory acidosis

Respiratory acidosis results from alveolar hypoventilation.  As a result CO₂  produced by the body is not adequately removed, and pCO₂ rises until the point at which removal matches generation.

The underlying cause will fall into one of two groups:

• Patient who will not breathe

• Patient who cannot breathe
