Metabolic alkalosis resistant to correction by chloride and ECF volume replacement

These situations are the result of abnormalities of distal K⁺ and H⁺ transport which are not secondary to chloride depletion.

There are two groups:

1. Caused by mineralocorticoid excess

2. Caused by tubular transport abnormalities
